  1. It's been a few years since I was in the market for saltwater fish. The ones I did get, mainly came from Gerber's near Dayton. Once i got a couple from Petco. Gerber's is a decent ways from me now, but expect to head that way again when time comes. How's the business there? Still going strong as always? I assume prices are higher like everything else. Many members here buying from them?
  2. are we reading the same thread? it's absolute hell I can post pictures shortly, not much to see other than the progress that I"m not making.
  3. lengthy update......... Last time I was on here, I had my 135g mixed reef tank set up and running. In September of 2019, I decided to shut the system down until I could move into a house. Sold off all my livestock and the tank has sat in storage until Spring of 2021. As much as I wanted to keep the tank, the size of it took up a lot of floor space. I had to make a decision, do I place it in the dining room, and lose all functionality of the dining room, as well as two windows......or do I go smaller and make due. I chose the smaller tank option. I sold the 135g tank, and ended up buying an 80g rimless cube from SCA Aquariums in the summer of 2021. Finally got the house painted and ready to finalize the living room where the tank would be kept. In January 2022, the tank was in place and now the fun begins, or so I thought. I was planning on using the sump that came with the plug n play system. I trashed all the plumbing parts as they were all metric . No biggie. Proceeded to paint the inside of the stand, as well as the sump. That was all ready to go, and now came time to place the sump inside the stand. That brought everything to a screeching halt. Turns out the sump did not fit into the opening. I tilted, angled, and tried everything. I contacted SCA Aquariums and their response was that I needed to install the sump in the rear, by removing all the screws holding the back in place. That raised a huge red flag for me. That told me that, if I ever had to replace or remove that sump for any reason, that meant draining the display tank, moving it away from the wall, make adjustments, piut back in place, level, etc etc. hell no!! that aint happening. I have room to get behind the tank, but there is not enough room to allow me to remove the sump and back of stand to do all this. So that nixed the idea of using the underside of the cabinet as my sump area. I could have gotten a smaller sump, but was quickly talked into moving the sump into the basement. So I broke down and did just that. the tank was put on hold till I figured this process out. There were a few things here and there that left me unhappy with the SCA experience. I haven't done a leak test yet, so who knows what that will bring. With the basement being completely empty, unfinished, but having heat / A/C, i was on a mission to make it "fish ready". Re-routed some electrical wiring, and ran a new circuit for the new fish tank. It was certainly a project to do all this. The electrical portion was fun, I don't mind all that. Now that all that is set up, it was now time to proceed with plumbing. I still had an issue with "no sump". After talking to a number of reefers, I was quickly talked into getting the largest sump I could afford. Enter 100g stock tank, stage left. There were so many positives going this route as well as having all this in the basement. I was highly upset at first, but have come to terms with it, and am proceeding forward. To paint another picture of whats going on........I have the stock tank in the basement, I then have to come out of that, go up through the first floor (via return vent), take a left out of that for about 3ft, where I will have it meet the back of the tank stand. It'll go up the backside of the stand, and then turn into the back of the stand and up into the bulkheads. I have the route all figured out, but the actual process to do this is quickly taking the fun out of it. I have been putting it off, regardless of how easy it is, plumbing is intimidating. I can't place unions at the bulkheads for easy removal, due to space constraint. I will have unions, but just a tad further away than the bulkheads (Not ideal), but I have to do what I have to do. So in the two months of slowly working on this, I am now at the point where I am trying to piece the bulkhead plumbing all together. Once I do that, I can route the plumbing lines to the return vent area. I have to level the stand, rout the plumbing, and then connect it all together. Too much has to happen at once to avoid any stress on any fitting / bulkheads. kinda stressful. Then I have to get to the leak test stage. I could possibly have to cut things apart and redo. That will discourage me from touching it again. Hopefully luck will be on my side. So that's where I am now. I'd like to continue this tomorrow. I hope to have water in this within a year (the speed I'm moving ). I have some threads on Reef 2 Reef, but I haven't ran into any locals, to Cincinnati) I hope to be back for good. Aint going through this again
  4. I know this section is for showing off your tank builds / set ups....but rather than me showing mine, I want to see yours. I am debating on getting a 50 or a 66 gallon cube. I have never had one before, but must admit they are sexy as hell! I had a 135 gallon tank, that I just sold, and am looking to downsize into a cube. Would you mind posting a picture of your display tank, as well as the sump section? Any details about the set up would be appreciated as well.
  5. I guess I can't edit the original post, so I have to add another comment...... I do have a second Hydra 26 HD LED fixture as well, but it needs to be sent in for servicing (this one is not included in the $200 price). But will sell if interested.
  6. while going through my equipment, I came across the mounting rails for the Hydra HD LED fixture. The rails run length wise and also have the mounting feet. The rails can be cut with a hacksaw for the desired length (very easy to modify). These are new (not used), and I will include them with the light fixture when sold.
  7. I am in idle mode now. Selling off my 135g set up, and downsizing.....BUT, when I had mine running, I QT'd from day one. Heard a lot of horror stories and didn't want to chance it. I had the tank running for about 3 years and never had an outbreak of any kind. I bought fish from Petco, Lazy's, Gerber's, and Monfort Aquarium. All fish went through QT. I have a 20 gallon tank which has some pvc elbows in it for hiding, a HOB filter, and the sides and back are painted black to reduce stress. Once they completed the Qt period, into the stadium of lights they went. I always put PraziPro in the QT tank. That was the only additive I ever used, or had to use.
  8. I have one HYDRA 26 HD LED fixture that I no longer need. The fixture is used. I have three of them that I ran at about 50% power for a few years. It will also include the power supply needed to power unit. Due to me downgrading tanks in size, This one will not be needed. I am looking to get $200 for it (OBO). I am located in Cincinnati Any questions, please let me know.
  9. I have a USED Reef Octopus skimmer (INT-200) that has roughly a years worth of time on it. Works perfectly fine. Downsizing tanks and this skimmer will not be used. Asking $200 for it. I also have a another older skimmer of the same size, it is an SWC. I had this skimmer as a back up, but the pump on it works hit or miss. But I will throw this skimmer in for free. Maybe the pump needs cleaned, but other than that, it's solid. If interested, please let me know. I am in Cincinnati. Please feel free to PM me
  10. I'll even take $200 for it, if interested
  11. I'll get some pictures posted tomorrow night
  12. Just want to update the skimmer to a newer one. This one is a few years old. Other than that, no reason. I certainly don't need one that size
