ErickS
Yes . I would bet that’s why it’s so loud. No problem that’s why we’re all here

Or would like 2 or 3 inches work?
crimsonvice
I would say as close to 6 inches a possible. You might be able to go with less, if you use a ball valve to slow down the flow through the pipe. If you have a full siphon, the water will vortex just like water going down the tub drain. When the vortex hits the top of the water, you get a nice slurping sound. The 6 inches of space, gives you enough room between the pipe and the water surface that the flow through the pipe doesn't create that vortex. Hope this makes sense. I'm gonna have to cut my drain pipe down. I originally cut it to only be about an inch or two below the water.
crimsonvice
Just make sure that your sump can hold the additional water volume that will drain when your pump stops. I don't want you to go cut it, and then end up with 5 gallons on your floor because of me.

I have about 45-50 gallons of water that I can drain down and be okay crimsonvice
Keithw283
actually, Would I just be able to put something like Erik has on it and put a pvc pipe on the 90 to make it 6" below the water?

I think that would be acceptable, you just want to avoid the vortex that Brandon referred to. Keithw283
ErickS
Definitely take into account the water that’s going in your sump when shut pumps off. Keithw283
Keithw283
I ended up putting a ball valve on the drain lines and played with it until it was silent. Now, do you guys have any tips to the least creative person on creating a good aquascape? This wasn't my attempt at and aquascape (although I must admit that clump of bs on the right was) I just wanted to see how much rock I actually had. There are a few more pieces not in the picture. crimsonvice
Nice! Glad that worked out. Aquascape are all about personal preference. Some people enjoy the "rock wall" look, because this allows for the most possible room for coral. I prefer a scape with more open space. One peak high than the other is usually more appealing to the eye. Alot of people will use the rule of thirds to help plan aquascapes. The idea is to hit all the point where the lines intersect. Maybe a high peak on left to touch left high point, and a smaller off center island peaking out at the lower right point. Just an idea. Keithw283
Thanks! I'll probably be going through the members tanks section over the next couple days and steal all of your guys' hard work lol crimsonvice
Muttley000
I think the best looking scapes are high on one end or the other amd leave open space
ErickS
I put most my focus on caves all over for fish to go in and out . At some point I need more rock and a rescape to keep some coral separate due to future aggression and growth. I’m betting most of us have those moments though as our tank matures
Keithw283
I still have all these rocks and no idea what to do with them. I took all the rocks out and put them on the paper and carefully thought out how to scape the tank and this is all I got lol. Going to go to bed for the day and get back to it later. crimsonvice
Keithw283
Took my rock out of the tank and am starting from scratch with the scape. I'm going to have to recycle the tank but I would like to hopefully get this right the first time especially since I want to have this thing bursting with coral so I have to have nice spots to put them. I have some ideas but I'm pretty busy over the next few days so I'm not sure when it'll actually get done. I got this done this morning though and it'll go on the right side of the tank. I have a PVC pipe I cut to 18" that I'm going to use to make a tall tower and archway whenever I get the chance. Keithw283
So in the past week I got my aquascape finished, the cycle is done and I added a couple fish. I've been dosing the brightwell Micro bacteria for the past week as well and will continue to do so for another week. The scape probably isn't perfect but I have plenty of caves for fish to hide and once I add coral and get some growth there it will look much better I hope. I also put my lights on a schedule finally ErickS

I'm banking on having success with coral growth though so that will definitely help it look better.
