castlet67
I do not have halides, but do have led. My frag tanks are set up with t5. Anyone know how far above the tank i should have the t5's? Tanks are 8 inches deep.

The waiting list is only 1 deep right now so it could be to you in a little over a week. That would be the best way to tell, but I would guess you will be somewhere about a foot above the water. crimsonvice
Yeah par meter would be the best way to have a definitive answer. Otherwise, I would agree with @Muttley000 and say about a foot(ish).
crimsonvice
Found this on Reef2Reef and found it informative on wavelength and intensity of the Hamilton 20k bulb (which I am using) vs the Radium 20k bulb (which I have thought about using). Guess I will stick with the Hamilton. Slightly cheaper, and almost exact wavelength as the more expensive and coveted Radium bulbs. ***credit to Kevinsquint on R2R for all effort used to put into creating this*** jeff70
Lazylivin
Can you use a PAR meter to adjust the intensity and placement so the PAR is identical for both LED and MH? Also adjust color on LED so the light is indistinguishable between the MH and LED?

I think I have matched the color as best as I can tell between the MH and LED... at least to my eye, I will double check with the wife though. She always tells me i'm blind, so I might have to correct it a little. lol
Jesse
my guess is Halides will win no matter what PAR you have.
crimsonvice
Update: Halide Led So far growth and color are looking slightly better under the Ocean Revive led. Waiting on the par meter to better adjust light settings for better comparison.
Craig
@crimsonvice PM your address so I can ship the PAR meter to you.
castlet67
Crimsonvise, what is the timeframe on the above pics? Is this since November 10th? Im getting curious of your par readings myself. On sps i get no change in growth under led, softies are exploding, t5 i get great coloration on all coral but very slow growth across the board. Cant wait to see the settings and par readings. Edited December 2, 2017 by castlet67

crimsonvice
Another month down. Halide LED
Muttley000
So it looks like the LED is growing faster by the pics, is that what you see? Better get after that green menace too!
crimsonvice
@Muttley000 So far it appears that the frag under the led has really taken off. I just received the par meter today, so when I get a sec I will compare par readings. This algae stuff is hard to shake. I will be placing an order with reef cleaners here soon for more clean up crew. I have reduced amount fed, and reduced to every other day as well. Hopefully this will help. Lazylivin
That is probrably surprising to a lot of folks. It Will be interesting to see what the par numbers are.
crimsonvice
Honestly I was very surprised myself. I am in the process of trying to move and getting the new house set up, but I think I should be able to grab some numbers tomorrow morning.... Hopefully. crimsonvice
So I ran a quick par test. Led par measured 220 Halide par measured 140 This is probably why we are seeing better growth on the led frag.
castlet67
Isnt that a little low even on the led? Ive been told to shoot for 320 to 400 par on sps. You show great growth, so im wondering if i should tune down a bit
