Jesse
I'm looking at this powerhead to run in the 90 I'm setting up. Who is currently running or have you ran one of these powerheads? How long have you had it running? Do you like it? Would you suggest it? Is it compatible with the Apex? http://www.coralvue.com/icecap-3k-gyre-generating-flow-pump
Muttley000
I don't believe the controller that comes with this is apex ready. Icecap does make a controller for the actual Maxspect gyre pump that is apex ready and I am running that one. To be honest the big advantage to what I doing is that I get the alternating gyre mode, and that is built into the controller that comes with this. If you are wanting to shut it off for feed mode I suppose you could put the power supply for it onto an outlet for your apex and just kill it. If you are wanting it to change flow intensities with your lighting and things like that all done on apex I don't believe it will give you that. Hopefully somebody here is running the exact product and can fill in some blanks.
marinelife
your better option is http://www.coralvue.com/maxspect-xf230-gyre-pump The advanced controller is great and is apex ready. I had 4 of the largest ones they make. I sold them off because the noise level was too much. The 230s are good and do not have the noise issues. They are a large pump so keep that in mind. JMM
Running the 3K on my 70 reef. About 40% and it’s more then enough flow. Have a small power head on the opposite end and that gives random turbulence. Not apex compatable that I know of or I would use it on my apex. Fairly quiet but the faster you run it the more you hear the whine from it. Had it about 8-12 months.
crimsonvice
Pull the trigger @Jesse you will love it. I ended up going with the Maxspect Gyre for my 120, but my LFS has been running these and they are pretty much the same thing. Slight differences here and there, but overall a great product. Every review I hear is great.
Jesse
Would I be able to get away from using any powerheads using one icecap in a 90 gallon?
