Dosing nitrates

I wonder if the variation in phosphate is the variant of the Hanna Checker.

What is the variant?

+/- .04, So I technically could be at .08 Po4 and still get my readings at .12 and .04 which have been my last few readings.

You must be using the HI713, the HI736 is +/- .015

Yeah I am not using the ultra low range. I have it, I just haven't opened the box yet. Figured I would use all my reagents first and then try out the ULR.

You’ll like it!

Yeah, it is not something that I constantly pay attention to, but it is something to keep in the back of your mind. Especially, when you are monitoring closely. Every test kit(Hanna, Salifert, RedSea, API) has a variance to take into consideration. Each test kits margin of error is different, so it is important to consider when comparing test results from one kit to another. In this instance, that could totally be the reason for my difference in my results every few days.

Turn off the skimmer for a day or two.? Maybe that’ll help?

I think turning off the skimmer or lowering the water level in it will help. I think nitrate dosing can work, but is also another numbers chase. What is the right number for your tank, and are nitrates only testing so low because your reef is consuming them so quickly?

My nitrates have never tested higher than 1.4 via lab testing. This is likely a result of the bio-pellet/refugium combination, but outside of reduced skimming I personally have not considered dosing nitrates. Turning off the bio-pellet reactor worries me also since any colonies inside the reactor would most certainly perish.

my bio pellet reactor has been off since May 4th and I am still no higher on my nitrates. They have been hovering between undetectable and.02. Po4 has been anywhere between.02 and.2.

I turned off my skimmer four days ago and I am just now starting to see a good.02 on my Salifert nitrates kit. I replaced my kit because the one I had been using previously expired 1/18, so I wasn't sure if the results were accurate or not. Apparently it was still testing right because the new kit still says close to 0.

I have 12 lol

I am thinking two more tangs will probably do it. Hopefully. Want an orange shoulder and either a Duasumieri or Fowleri. I have that small Hippo in the Biocube, but it isn't growing very fast at all.
