Hi everyone. I didn't see a new members thread or section so figured "genera" would be the place but please forgive me if I am just blind and missed it. Anyways just wanted to say hello an introduce myself. I just recently setup a Nano tank. Haven't even cycled it. That's on tonights agenda. This isn't my first tank but it is my first coral tank. My first tank was a 55g FOWLR tank (circa 2011-2015). I wanted to keep corals back then but couldn't afford the proper lighting. (Was using CF). Anyways, the new tank is a 13.5g all in one. Uses LED lighting and from what I have read and seen on youtube is that it does really well with Corals. I have it loaded with 20lbs of live rock. (Will post pics in this thread.) Since I have never kept corals I will have LOTS of questions and would rather ask them and get advice from locals in Ohio. I am in the Chillicothe area so fairly close to Columbus. Apex tanked
crimsonvice reacted to JMM for a topic
Have the newer apex with WiFi. It’s hardwired to WiFi. So the other day it starts to reset itself. Then it disconnects from the fusion program. Just found out the brain has something wrong ( tumor maybe) and needs surgery. So now I am waiting on a replacement Neptune is sending. Tried hooking up to my classic system but the eb832 will not work with the classic. Learning the hard way.....have an extra brain on hand and have your programs written down or some such. I have to write new programs for my alk and Calc. and have just an idea of what the code was. Oh, and they get 300 for deposit while you wait for the outcome of the surgery. My medical insurance denied the claim already....shame really. New brain will be ordered soon. learn from my mistake. I actually had another system, the classic for backup but have since used it to run my new 180 and 120 and my sump and water station. Now added some of my 70 reef to it .1 point -

Well I'm finally starting a tank after quite some time. I started with a 29 gallon around 10 years ago. Moved up to a 75 gallon. The 75 was moved multiple times but remained a very nice mixed reef, sps dominate though. After taking a frag from a friend, I didn't see the aptasia on the plug. Well I'm sure everyone can guess what happened with that. After almost a year of batteling the aptasia, I tore the tank down. I decided to start a 40 breeder 2 years ago. Long story short, we had to remodel the room it was in so it didn't even make it past the cycle. Fast forward to now, I have a 29 gallon tank cycling. I'm happy about getting back into the hobby, just wish the tank was larger lol. I have some zoas reserved at the frag swap already so I'm pretty excited about that. The 29 will be very basic. No skimmer. Water changes and macro algae in a hob refugium in 3-4 months will be how I export nutrients. Will only have a pair of clowns and a cleaner shrimp as well. I wanted 0 fish but the wife wasn't having that lol.1 point -

Evil Mel's green skirt zoas, utter chaos and super sunflower so far. I don't plan on getting any more zoas right now. They're a pain to check for pests in my opinion. I'm hoping to pick up a euphyllia and possibly a lepto (Jack o lantern).1 point -

Gyre is amazing and they come apart easy to clean with backup set of heads. So you can use it and clean at the same time. I have never had any of the problems others speak of. Maybe @crimsonvice is on to something with putting them back together properly.1 point -
Looking nice. Hoping I have the same success with my 180. Did you cure your rocks before adding to the tank or just do it all in the tank?1 point

Cleaning sand hard to get places
crimsonvice reacted to Flounder for a topic
Between the Engineer Goby, nassarius snail and Maxspect Gyre my sandbed gets a good mix. I still use the long orange driveway marker to mix things up, or redistribute what the gyre has done. I heard people use these to help mount rockwork and figured it would be fine for temporary work.1 point -
whats a safe starting point ???
crimsonvice reacted to Flounder for a topic
My first and only swap: I took $200 and walked away with money left. Maybe I am frugal, cheap, or didn't see a bunch that amazed me (without going over spending limit). I think the swap is a great way to get a mixture of things to see what does well for you. I had one guy offer me a coral for $5 and I bought it. It's a tiny frag that he didn't mean to cut so small, but it is healthy and growing for me.1 point -
Electric Orange Hermit Crab

If it eats your coral, you just get to buy more! They are just going to help you keep the display rotated and fresh. Nothing like spending thousands of dollars on food for your hermit crab.1 point -
