  1. Thanks@muttley000, current my alk is 8.4 and Ca is 420 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  2. It's just weird that I've been using the same equipment for years and never had this problem. I replace the ro filters when the in line tds meter shows that they need replacing but I usually mix new water for around 24 hours before I use it. Use reef crystals all the time. So should I use an air pump and put a line in the new water as it mixes to burn off the CO2? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  3. Just checked it... it's reading 8.0. That's the first time I've tested my ro/di water so I'm not sure if that's a normal reading or not Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  4. The tank is in the basement and there's only one small window on the opposite wall. The past couple days I've had the windows open on the upper levels of my condo but even when it was hot out and had the a/c running the pH wouldn't drop past 8.5 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  5. Hello everyone!!! Been awhile since I checked but was busy the past couple months. Unfortunately, during these months my tank took a turn for the worst. I lost about 80% of my corals due to the fact that my pH stays between 8.5 to 8.7 all day and night. I have 240 gallons total water volume, three sumps, one has a giant thing of cheato in it. two of them are refugiums with rock and some sand. I was back in the spring dosing with Kalk on a timer and that was keeping the pH around 8.3 to 8.4 but it would go back down at night. I do use a pH probe with an electronic pH meter. Got both from BRS and I also recalibrated it a couple weeks ago just to make sure it wasn't an issue with the probe. Has anyone ever dealt with high pH or know someone who has? I've found some things online on how to lower it but there only short term solutions. I've also tried keeping the fuge light on the same time as the display lights to see if that would help burn off some additional CO2 but that doesn't seem to be working. Very frustrating cause all the fish and critters are doing great but until I can get a handle on the pH I can't get anymore coral. Please, any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated. 7. Especially if the Cardinals were hanging out around them. Those tube nems are nasty Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  8. very cool indeed!!! just when you think the ocean cant get any more amazing
  9. I second the tusk for taking out your inverts. where did the cardinals and the clown like to hang out in your tank when the lights were off?
  10. Ya, no problem. Come to find out most of the algae hype was due to a specific ingredient Kent marine used in their tech m product that actually deprived bryopsis of oxygen so it wasn't necessarily the mag doing it Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  11. I bumped it up to 1500 cause of all the talk I heard on other forums about it "helping out" with nuisance algae like bryopsis. So I figured I'd experiment and see if it did anything to algae. Ever since then I just keep it around 1500, helps keep alk and CA in check as well Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
  12. Hello fellow reefers!!! My name is Matt and I just recently signed up on the forum a couple days ago. Have to say, I'm really impressed with the way this forum is put together. Everyone seems very open and friendly. On to the good stuff... So I had a 120 gal in my living room for a couple years. Last December I came across a used 180 w/ stand for a great deal. so bought it and set it up around mid December in my basement. Ill have to sort through my pics on my laptop to find the ones I took of the construction of the tank. Basically I transferred everything from the 120 to the 180, had to buy, I think one maybe two more bags of sand, but that was it. Had a ton of live rock in my sumps that were in the basement running the 120. Equipment: 3 AI Hydra led fixtures, mp-40, mp-60, ecotechs new line of return pumps, Vectra m1, reef octopus biopellet reactor and diablo 250 xs skimmer, tunze ato, ecotech reeflink. I also have a BRS 4 stage ro/di filter. Ive been using reef crystals as long as I can remember but about a month ago switched to the ESV 4-part salt mix and will never go back to any other mix!!! love mixing a new batch of saltwater and being able to use it 20 minutes from the time you had the first ingredient and it mixes to the same parameters every single time!!!. I use Salifert test kits and my parameters are as follows... ALK-8.3 (2.96) CA-400 Mg-1500 PO4-.01 NO3-10. usually aim for 05 for NO3 but ive been feeding heavier to keep my purple tang happy and fat and I need to add a couple more mL's of biopellets. Salinity rides steady at 1.025 thanks to the tunze ato. Current Critter List: 1 purple tang, potters angel, female bluestar leopard wrasse, female melanaris wrasse, 1 snowflake clown, 1 male lyretail anthia, 2 female square anthias. Looking to add one or two more fishy friends in the near by future just not sure exactly what yet. various snails and large nassaruis snails, tuxedo urchin. Just wanted to get the thread started before calling it a night. So, thanks for looking and looking forward to hearing you thoughts, comments, and questions about the tank. I will be updating it with pics of the setup and anything else I come across as time goes on. Happy Reefing!!!
