  1. This is amazing to learn how hobbyists can support the environment and not just take. Great pics and info.
  2. Any tips on lighting as I start my 150 tall build? Looks like you went through a couple varieties and could make a good recommendation. Starting from scratch here.
  3. How are the different modes treating you? Have you settled on one or do you change it up from time to time?
  4. Yup yup yup. Busy weekend trying to get things going in the right direction. Working on cleaning it up. Also put about 100lbs of rock in the sump to start cycling while I finish the clean-up and build. Look forward to coming home from work and getting some work done all week. Why can't the weekend be longer?
  5. Traded in at lfs with my new set-up. Can you take down?
  6. Part of the deal with spouse is I can't run 2 systems. Willing to part with the entire setup. Gutted console TV, water/mold resistant paint inside and platform built to display tank. 20 Gallon tank with Fresh Water Lobster (4 years old) and some feeder fish and plants (Pinchy likes to pull them up eat a little then let them float to the top). Piano hinge on lid to open with LED lights mounted on lid.
  7. What are your thoughts? If the light isn't growing coral would it compliment coral growing lights or just get in the way? Could it just be used to light the fuge. 4 hours until they open!
  8. Going to pick up my new tank today! Wanted to give a little recognition to the one who got me started 30 years ago. The TV tank has been going strong for about 10 years and is always a conversation for people coming into the house.
  9. Triathlons- Swim, Bike, Run... go home eat and watch the tank while you recover! Everything works well together.
  10. The eyebrows of an old, old man. The soul of a youngster and a wonderful friend.
  11. tomorrow- at least I can get a tank that will fill the available space. My hope is the lights will be decent, then I can add on if needed.
  12. Stand puts it just over 5' tall in total- didn't really get specifics on brands as I was to excited for a complete set. Asking $1,200 for everything. They are going to hold so I can put eyes on everything to evaluate. Think even the best products not maintained aren't worth purchasing. Also the savings on getting a used set will allow for near/future upgrades. Would you consider a used skimmer if good quality and well maintained? Will evaluate lights on the same basis.
  13. I just found a 150 tall with sump, plumbing, skimmer and light at JP Success. Thinking of just buying it all, any thoughts?
  14. Just donated! Great fund and happy to help.
  15. Going with either a 120g or 150g new tank and wanted thoughts on Canister or Sump with refugium. This will be a brand new tank and first salt tank. Will be adding corals (over time). Several items to consider: Noise- will be about 10 feet from bedroom and want to keep light sleeping spouse happy. I am awesome sleeper and can sleep through anything. Maintenance schedule- I travel for work and have weeks that I will be out of town. Always home for the weekend and can perform regular maintenance on a weekly basis. Rookie build- seems like setup for canisters could be easier and buying a tank that could be drilled later for sump addition.
  16. How far apart would you drill frag holes? Thinking about putting more than necessary just to give myself options down the line. What size drill bits would you use? Just bought 3 more Pukani rocks, with hand picking rocks from lfs. Don't think these need any pre-drilled holes, correct?
  17. This is the best forum! Thanks to everyone who is helping me find stores and answer questions.
  18. I have been reading how noisy they are. What are your thoughts?
  19. Any reviews on Aquarium Adventures in Columbus?
  20. Cut a hole in the center of the big rock and tinkering with the other rocks to create an interesting aquascape. Any tips for the newbie on what I should do for a good visual and happy fish.
  21. Muttley, I am in Columbus, OH. Thanks for letting me know that the expo isn't the place for a set-up. I may have to get it up and cycling. Then go to the expo and get good idea's on what the future of my tank holds.
  22. Just joined and great to have a local resource. About to set up my first Saltwater tank and look forward to growing with everyone! Have the wife convinced to get a 120 gallon tank for the house. Any good recommendation on where to get the tank and furniture? Will set-ups be well priced at the expo?
