  1. Congratulations! Excited to watch the build and thank you for sharing.
  2. I went and did an Alk test and it is 8.0 and explains what happened. Looks like I have reached the point of needing to dose. Good thing I have the supplies and now to slowly dial in.
  3. I have developed a couple spots on my setosa. It has been growing great for almost 6 months. 2 things have changed. The zoa's next to it have grown to a point of touching. Could they be hurting it? I didn't think zoa's would do any damage to other corals. Getting the hanna checker for CA was giving me a reading of 500 and I was letting the CA come down. This has given me a CA reading on Salifert under 400. This is my likely reason, is there anything else?
  4. Live with Larry from LRS http://reeffrenzyradio.com/
  5. JP success is an interesting store. Joe is great and will take care of you. The show room's are small. However you can go back into the warehouse, watch your step. He also let me back into the clown fish breeding room... watch your step. Not a glamour building, and the price reflects. But he runs an honest business and has healthy livestock.
  6. I use the taste test. Not certain how accurate, but it tastes salty with a little calcium.
  7. I have Chromis and Clowns (they are Damsels) and they don't run the tank, almost hide. Put in a Diamond Watchman Goby, he was in a different part of the water column. Then Foxface, he can hold his own, Tangs, Wrasse, Coral Beauty, Green Mandarin, Neon Dottyback, Goby/Pistol Shrimp pair, and everyone is cool. I think my foxface is a peacekeeper though.
  8. Several times a week. My urchin will cause problems, blow off rocks, pet the fish, normal stuff...
  9. ugh, I lost mine when going out of town for a work trip. Everything was fine, then gone.
  10. get some duncans. They are my wife's favorite, and easy to manage.
  11. As this is the end of my rookie year with a salty tank. I am happy to keep a healthy environment. Makes me happy to sit back and see the healthy fish and corals. I enjoy working on everything and still have more to grow. Thanks everyone who has helped me build a great tank. Looking forward to an even better second year.
  12. I heard you should leave them for the shrimp to eat. This way it gets back what is needed to rebuild the shell. I have always left the molts.
  13. Can't take it with you when you leave the earth. Enjoy yourself.
  14. @Muttley000I am going to have to hire you to plan my next house with a multi-tank setup.
  15. Salty Caramel... love Jeni's Ice Cream
  16. Just out of curiosity and future planning. Those with multiple tanks. Are they tied together or separate? Why?

    Who uses GFO?

The Hanna phosphate was a game changer for me.
  18. Gyre is amazing and they come apart easy to clean with backup set of heads. So you can use it and clean at the same time. I have never had any of the problems others speak of. Maybe @crimsonvice is on to something with putting them back together properly.
  19. Welcome to the club. As a Columbus native you have a lot of options for Local Fish Stores. In my opinion it is worth visiting the stores to check out the possibility of what you can do. Get to know Joe from JP Success in Lancaster. He breeds clowns and I got a great deal from him. Every time I visit his store, I check out the warehouse section. Sometimes visiting the clown breeding room. If you are up for a little trip to Northeast Columbus go into Rivers to Reefs, Matt's Corals and Reef System Coral Farm. Rivers to Reefs have great unique fish including an electric eel. Matt's Coral has some great coral to check out. Reef System Coral Farm is a little out of the way, but wow do they deliver on the name. I am about 1 year into the hobby and thank this group for my success as a rookie.
  20. I got the Hanna CA, P04 and Alk checker recently. I love the P04 and this has helped me understand where I am and better utilize my GFO. Way better than the Salifert, what shade of light blue is this and seems comprable. Alkalinity is also more accurate and great reading. Calcium is my question. Using the Hanna I get a reading of 500 with the Salifert reading 400. Several tests and I keep getting the same information. Anybody else have this experience? Who do you trust?
  21. 1- Water, I could get an RO unit but being in my rookie year it has given me the opportunity to see what comes in to LFS and build relationship with LFS. Being a repeat customer helps in anything you do. 2- food, I have about 7 different foods that get rotated for a balanced meal. My fish love me. Wife always jokes about how much attention I get from fish. 3- livestock, I am pretty happy now so this will change
