  1. I have been looking at doing this also (just gotta find a place that sells what I need). People have also suggested processing your own garlic cloves to add as well as adding some phytoplankton for the corals and such. Some people add Selcon as well. I think it's a really viable way to save money especially if you can get the recipe just right and your tank inhabitants love it. You will spend 20-30+ dollars on it but you literally get pounds of fish food.
  2. ^^^^ I get mine in the sump and on a power head that has some shadowing so they definitely prefer less light it seems
  3. I have never removed them. I don't think they hurt anything.
  4. It looks like cyano to me but I'm no expert. Is it stringy?
  5. Interesting, I may give that a shot as well. It looks like it is rather inexpensive and judging from their mixtures, it would probably last a long time.
  6. Reef tank. I would definitely choose coral over fish.
  7. I definitely agree the QT would be a better option. I may give that a shot just to see if I find any pests. I have been very careless with new introductions to my tank so far, and it will surely catch up with me if I don't start taking more precautions. I would rather ask questions now and prepare instead of trying to recover after an issue arises. Thanks for the response!
  8. So I have been doing some research online for coral dips to get rid of bacterial infections and such on zoanthids. I do not have any issues so far. One colony is suspect to me for a bacterial infection but nothing to cause the polyps to close or anything so I think I am just paranoid. Anyway, during my search for cures for bacterial infections and zoa pox, I found numerous pages of people stating that they use a hydrogen peroxide/tankwater solution to dip their corals to rid them of infections and unwanted pests. The majority of people use a 90% tank water to 10% peroxide (3%) solution and dip for 10-20 minutes. Some people did a 50/50 mix but that is way too harsh and they lost colonies because of it. Desperate times call for desperate measures, I suppose. My question now is, has anyone here used a peroxide dip in this way? Do you think it could be a substitute for dipping new frags to get rid of pests and possible infections(not freshly cut frags)? I would imagine that with freshly cut frags you would still want to do a dip with lugols, but maybe a mild solution of peroxide would be comparable? 95% tank water and 5% peroxide, or even less? Just about everything I saw said that Furan 2 was the go-to cure for zoa pox. But I also saw that it is some EXTREMELY nasty stuff (carcinogen and all). So any alternative that is remotely effective is a welcomed one in my opinion. I saw that Jesse had mentioned dosing peroxide to help with algae issues, and wondered if maybe peroxide had other beneficial uses. What do you all think?
  9. Those look really cool. I havent made the dive into sps yet.
  10. I wonder what caused the tank to fail? It just shattered, the guy at the desk was drenched before he even turned his head. wow.
  11. So I know it has been two weeks since anyone posted on this but I saw the picture and "watermelon zoas" popped into my head immediately. I have some in my tank and they are more orangish rather than red. Do these look similar?
