Also include a little description about your tanks if you could such as lights, tank size, manufacturer. What do you love about your tank? Are you looking for any advice maybe on lighting? Anything you wish to put.
Please keep in mind, if you are the winner your tank will be featured on multiple forum sites and social media outlets such as Facebook. The MQ200 has issues detecting certain wavelengths of LED lighting. Because of the blue pigment in their diffuser, there's a flat spot in reactivity to LED wavelengths of 450 to 650 nm. Because of this, there is a set of "corrections" that need to be applied to any of the LED readings taken by the 200.
The MQ500, the new Full Spectrum model, can handle any commercially available LED wavelengths, in addition to accurately reading wavelengths from Metal Halide, HO t5 or other fluorescent tubes including VHO, PC, or any combination thereof.
Essentially, the 200 is still ideal for anyone using any of the older lighting modes... it's LED it can't quite manage.
The MQ500 is for those who've upgraded into LED and prefer a direct result to one that takes some adjusting.

Here's the page detailing the LED issue with the MQ models from 400 down to 100. : http://www.apogeeinstruments.com/light-intensity-measurements-for-light-emitting-diodes-leds/

Just wanted to thank everyone who stopped by the table at the expo today, hope we got you all some deals, or at least some free swag to take home...

For an inaugural event, this was a great show. Everyone was friendly, the crowds were a pleasure to interact with, and all in all we left with a fantastic impression and a desire to do it all again next year!

Thanks for having us out, and to everyone who had to buy all the leftover corals after I went and got all the best ones for myself, I'm sorry... I couldn't help myself. I hope you didn't leave too disappointed. These 4 were just too hot to handle, real panic-inducing stuff, so for the good of the hobby I went ahead and took the hit. Somehow, I'll manage.

I apologize for the delay, we've been getting ready for the Expo tomorrow, and the power in Edinburgh has been spotty! We will definitely get our page updated as well. Please understand, we're a company of less than 10 people total. We really do our best to stay on top of the latest changes to product info, but on occasion, especially times like Spring where we have a show every weekend to sponsor, we get a little backlogged. I hope you'll give us a chance to make it right.

Premiumaq got a reaction from Jesse in Fragging Brain Coral
I still use an Inland DB-100 lapidary band-saw. They're smaller than the Gryphons, and they have a smaller plate and clearance, but they work great for anything less than 3.5" thick overall.

There are a couple of things to consider when fragging most brains, if you want to minimize healing time and maximize overall production. If at all possible, you want to leave one nice growing edge on each frag, so at most create 3 cut sides. Try to cut across naturally occurring narrow spaces on the brain and to follow the skeletal structure of the brain as much as possible. You're infinitely better off cutting the raised bony ridges, where the skin is thin and there is little mesenterial tissue to damage, rather than cutting through the valleys where you risk destroying mouths and guts.

If you can, make all of the cuts to the mother colony first, removing in large pieces the parts you intend to shape down into frags. That way, you're creating one short-term shock to the mother, rather than many, prolonged shocks over a delayed period. Try to leave growing edges on at least two different sides of the mother, in case one of the cuts becomes infected and you need to amputate. Be careful to rinse your equipment (and each coral mother and frag) very well with RO/DI between cuts, because you're likely to introduce bacteria from external sources deep into the cuts, and to spread gut contents and waste everywhere any time you cut through those areas. Many a brain frag has been lost to RTN or STN caused by infectious material or bacterial "jelly" that contaminated the fresh cuts.

After you've removed all the sections from the mother and cut them  down into frag size, just wait for the frags to grow skin over the exposed skeleton and to start new growing edges. At that point you can consider them matured enough to sell as established, by the accepted terms of 'established' for the industry. Sometimes you may need to go back to the frags and the mother and to "shave down" some exposed bits of skeleton, if they become encrusted with algae. It's exceedingly difficult for a brain to reclaim skeleton from growing algae, so often it's better to remove that exposed material so the frag can spend energy on growth and healing rather than on combating algae for real estate.

Each time you decide to do another round of frags, take a pic of the mother immediately before cutting. That picture can be included in the posting when you're selling the frags, as a way of showing your source material and showcasing the coral in a non-stressed state. It's also a quiet way of advertising that you practice sustainable reefing and responsible fragging, and you're not just a "chop shop" who orders, slices, sells and ships before the corals have healed to make the quick buck. Informed, experienced hobbyists will notice those little touches, and those are your target demographic for sales. You want folks who understand the fragile nature of what you do, and who can appreciate the efforts you put into your corals, because they're the most likely to follow instructions regarding acclimation, to perform QT, and to have a reasonable expectation of success with your frags, leading to less complaints and less hassle overall.

As far as unusual requests made during these special order events: If it's available, and you're comfortable with the quote, we'll get it for you! We're trusting that you have done the research and you can provide your new livestock with a suitable home. That's why we tend to make the offers to Clubs - there are enough folks sharing information and with experience in the hobby to help any of the less experienced hobbyists make wise choices.

We just finished off a Special Order event with another group from your area, and we were wondering if you all would like to try a similar sale.  In this method, someone from the club makes a drive to collect all of the orders. We typically need a couple weeks to put together this sale, because we will special order Livestock for you during this type of Group Buy. Here's how it works:

At the beginning of the sale, everyone who is ordering Livestock turns in a Wish List. This is anything that you're interested in getting a quote on; if it's available on the current supply lists we'll find it. Fish, coral, inverts, send us anything at all you really want in your system. We will take each list and shop it for a quote - a rough estimate of what final cost would be for each item you listed. From that quote, you generate a list of your ideal order. You list the species, the number you want, and any instructions about sizing or color. From all of those ideal orders we generate a Master Order for the club.

We then generate a discount code for all dry goods, sand and live rock orders. The code lasts a week, and everyone gets their orders placed by the end of that week. Only dry goods, sand, and live rock need to be ordered via this method, as Livestock orders are separate and don't require the code. When you're finalizing your dry goods order, you select Local Pickup as your shipping method, and we hold the orders until the Livestock orders arrive so everything is sent out at once with your driver.

The week after the dry goods orders are completed we order your livestock using the Master list we created. We'll go over all of our supplier lists to find as many of your Wish List items as possible, and we'll send you a final quote based on what we expect to be able to secure - this quote will be the maximum that you could possibly spend, if every single thing you ordered arrives healthy. At this point, you can make final substitutions or additions to the list - it's the last chance. Once you approve the final order we've generated for you, we place the order.

The day the Livestock arrives is the day your driver arrives. We divide the shipments into your individual orders, and do a final inventory of what arrived and what was not shipped. We look at each Livestock item with your driver, so that they can verify the health and life of the specimen, and we bag all of your smaller bags into a larger shipping bag with your name on it... and then we pack them directly into a shipping box without ever opening the bag or acclimating the livestock. It goes straight from the supplier to you, and because we're only a stop on the way, we offer all Special Ordered Livestock at 40% off retail!

We do not charge you for the livestock until it is verified and packed into the driver's vehicle to travel directly to you. That way, you're not pre-paying for items, or being charged for items that don't arrive. We bulk order cleanup crew inverts like crabs and snails, so we get a rate that can't be beat even with a special order price and 40% off. Because of this, we offer you wholesale pricing on all cleanup crew inverts that we normally stock. Once again, since these orders are generated online and you're outside Indiana, these orders are tax exempt. That means 40% off Special Order Livestock, wholesale pricing on all cleanup crew, no tax, and no shipping charge. These discounts can ONLY be had during Special Order events for sponsored Clubs.

Here are a few examples of what folks from the other club just brought in, and prices they paid. Bear in mind that Livestock prices fluctuate seasonally, and specimens of various species may not always be available. These prices are examples and were calculated from 11.11.15 supplier pricing. They are not meant to be an offer or a guarantee. Your actual pricing on these same items could be higher or lower, depending on the current list prices.

If this is something that you all are interested in, let your Leadership team know so we can start discussing further details. (We need one member of Leadership/Admin/Ownership/BOD to coordinate with and to facilitate postings and updates) We typically need about a 15-order minimum for Livestock to make a sale like this happen, and you’ll need someone with a large vehicle suitable for picking up anything that may be ordered during the sale. We’ve found that a single-day round trip rental on a minivan is the most economical way to ensure enough room, if you don’t have a driver with a suitable vehicle. They can be under $50 for the day, and if everyone kicks in $5 it covers the rental and some gas money.

Premiumaq got a reaction from Jesse in Select Hydor Koralia + Cobalt MJ sale
We're not running any in the shop at the moment, the returns plus gyre flow cover the tanks. Several of them have sold locally, and returns don't seem to be an issue - not for failure and not for dissatisfaction - so they seem to be working as advertized.

Hydor has been consistent in improving the Koralia line with each generation. Each mod is based on end-user input and beta-testing to make flow volume higher and energy consumption lower while working out any issues from previous generations.

Hydor is often overlooked as one of the legacy brands in this industry. They've been the same company forever, offering service and parts on a long-standing line of products. Their small pumps have always performed well, their filters and heaters are solid, and they've got an extensive line of well-designed products.
