  1. Hello All! If you plan on attending the CORA swap this sunday and intend to purchase any of RRA's products, please visit: https://www.reeftrader.com/swaps/92/listings?search_seller=1693 Due to a recent surge in demand, phytoplankton is going to be available in very limited quantities in comparison to other swaps. It would be very helpful to know who wants what, and even more with our frozen food so I know who will be something insulated to take it home it.
  2. I've been asked by people interested in phytoplankton and the Copepods I sell...why buy it? Well, with all marketing aside, it's natural. Looking at the micro fauna on coral reefs we see large number of available species for inverts and corals to filter feed on. Often times in our reef tanks, these tiny power houses aren't present like they are in the ocean. Starting with phytoplankton, it's used by filter feeders like tube worms and corals including those tricky NPS corals. Basically, it's like a protein bar for inverts. They use light, minerals and trace elements to bulk up. When fed to these filter feeders, they receive the benefits of these minerals and protein. So, it's a natural food and a natural way to improve water chemistry. Copepods are much more common and available in our tanks, welcoming themselves in as beneficial hitchhikers on live rock, coral frags and added as food for our wrasses and mandarin gobies in the form of purchased live pods. They feed on detritus and...you guessed it, Phytoplankton. I hope these key points help you understand what we sell better. Of course now is the time to say, we offer both in sizes from 8 oz., 16 oz. and 32 oz. to be the most economical and ensure the best quality. Please message me if you are interested in some of our pods or phyto and as always, I am always available for questions, comments and general discussion about anything saltwater!
  3. Hello all! My name is Dustin Graham, Owner of Responsible Reef Aquaculture located in Hamilton, Ohio. I had someone say I should start a thread about what we do. First a little bit about me: I am a high school sophomore studying business who started this business as a result of seeing how bad the ocean's reefs are deteriorating. It's a project that I hope to continue on with though college. Our specialty is in a blend of phytoplankton that was improved upon based on many major chains. I've since gotten one customer in Mount Healthy, Aquatics and Exotics. I've had a fair share of challenge getting customers but I am hoping that attending some frag swaps and shows will help get my name out there. My business plan is based on this: Sell a superior product cheaper than what I can order online. So, enough with the negative and on to the real reason I started my business and posting here today. I would like your ideas on things that you feel don't stand up to what they should, things that you think could be improved in our hobby. We recently started working on copepods and daphnia, experimenting with food vs. culture density and I think i'm on to something. Anything else that can come to mind would be great, as I am interested in hearing your suggestions. Please wish me luck moving forward, as these trade shows and my one lfs seem to be my only markets. I am planning to be at the 2019 Buckeye Frag Swap if I can get a table. Thanks again, Dustin
  4. Responsible Reef Aquaculture Premium Aquacultured Phytoplankton Product Information Three species include: -Nannochloropsis gaditana -Tetraselmis sp -Isochrysis galbana Recommendations and Additional Info: Responsible Reef Aquaculture’s blend of three species of phytoplankton was grown on a 14-hour photo period each day for 8 days. F/2 fertilizer was used at F strength, so in other words, they contain many macro and trace elements without the use of fertilizers that contain copper. It is best to shake each bottle each day to prevent the cells from settling at the bottom of the bottle. This could lead to the cells dying and rotting. If the bottle smells of ammonia, do not use! The shelf life is approximately 3 months if kept in a refrigerator. Add 5 ml per 10 gallons 3 times per week for the first week. Increase by 2-4 ml each week for three weeks, then adjust as needed.
