Mussin
So does all reef salt leave a brown film on storage containers? I use Kent sea salt and it always has if it sits for a week or longer.

Do you heat the water up before you mix? I think that was the trick for me.
Mussin
Yea. It only does it if I have some in there for a week. If I use it the same day its fine.
Jesse
I always end up with a brown film in my trash can mixing reef crystals. I’ve never heated the water up before mixing either though. I will be testing out Fritz soon. Scott C
JMM
I keep about 55 gal. mixed all the time and it does get sludge in the bottom but it’s never been an issue. Use reef crystals. The water is heated.
Joe
When I mixed salt, I always had it at 78* before any salt went in the container. As well as a powerhead running. I always added the salt on slowly. Taking about 30 min to get it all in. And always had nasty brown on my lid and around the container at water level. That’s why with this next set up, I don’t want to use ReefCrystals.
crimsonvice
I havent ever had this happen with Fritz or Aquaforest. Joe
Craig
I’ve used Aqua Forest, Salinity, Fritz, Coral pro and ESV and never had a brown issue with any of them.
