Jesse
Who has used Phosphate RX to get rid of phosphates? Although my tank is showing zero phosphates I'm curious if that is because of the hair algae, and dino's I'm fighting consuming all phosphates. Melev's Reef swears by Phosphate RX so I'm going to give it a shot to see if it helps with rebuilding my 90 gallon neglected tank.
Fishoutofwater
Never used it myself. But I’m curious so I’ll follow for any responses
Muttley000
It's repackaged lanthium chloride. It works well. The bottle I bought in this thread is a lifetime supply http://www.buckeyereef.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4314-muttley000s-lanthanum-dosing-experiment/
Jesse
It’s interesting that Melev’s doesn’t use any cheato, or GFO on his systems. Says he doses phosphate RX a few times a year.
Joe
So who’s gonna try it? Do you dose this in a filter sock? Have to wait till after work to watch the video.

marinelife
I use lanthium chloride for pools, it's way cheaper than phosphate RX. I have it mixed to auto dose a few times a night to keep my tank's phosphates down. Been running it for several years without issue. My drips near the input of one of my skimmers
Joe
Have you rechecked your numbers? How is this going?

Joe
So in the video he says to use a 10 micron filter sock. I have a 200 micron sock. Is better than a 10 micron?
Muttley000
I'd get the finer sock, the chemical reaction binds up the phosphates in small packages that the sock can take out. If you don't get that stuff in the sock it doesn't get removed. I am not clear what happens over time if the stuff isn't removed.

Muttley000
The smaller the number the finer the filter. The number represents the size particle that passes through.

But I put 4 drops in and my water got so cloudy I couldn’t see the back of the tank. I had my filter in place and in an hour it was clear again. crimsonvice
Just ordered some. Checked my phosphates the other day and they were up to .5. Not horrible, but a lot of sps gurus dont like to see them that high. We will see how it works out.
Joe
I plan on using it regularly as suggested in the video. When I see that film on my glass that's thicker than normal, I am going to dose.
