Deereefer
Does any one run a algae scrubber? Would you recommend it. I'm trying to run a ULM tank.
Joe
I ran one on my very first tank. Worked great for the first year. Even an ATS needs regular maintenance. I personally won’t run a tank with out a skimmer. But wouldn’t mind using an ATS as a secondary nutrient reducer.
Muttley000
Welcome to the forum! We would like to see and hear more about the system in a build thread! I'm still running a home made on on my system, just scraped off a baseball size clump of stuff off it this morning! As Joe said you have to clean them regularly, if the algae gets too thick it dies off where there is no light and returns the nutrients to the system. I have mine in use along with a cheato fuge and a skimmer. To be honest I have dialed all 3 back as I have found that having nutrients too low made my coral's suffer. Jon Fishman
I run a Clear Water ATS. the 200 I believe. I know it started growing a sheet of algae in a week or so, and it was easy to setup. Anything else, I don’t know!

Muttley000
Yummy! How long did it take to grow that?
Jon Fishman
This was the first time cleaning it, so probably let it go almost 2 months? It was “clean” and not seeded to start though
