T5 question!

I picked up two 48” aquatic life hybrids.   I will be putting it over a 96” long tank, 20” wide.

I am putting 2 Radion Xr30 pros in each fixture, and the T5’s will obviously be edge-to-edge.

Question:

What bulbs do I get?    I don’t get what the blue super or whatever things are....    whites and blues?   some have other names?    I just have no idea.....     and with 4 bulbs per fixture, if I do different types of bulbs, does it matter what ones are where in the fixture?

How about a whiter bulb combo and use the Radions to get the blue color you want. Just a thought, I have no experience with t5 so I don’t know personally. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

corey

Sorry, I guess what I mean, is.....    looking for best supplemental coverage and coral growth......

Heck, the T5’s probably aren’t necessary, but buying the fixtures weren’t that much more expensive than buying all the hanging kits, brackets, and rails for the Radions, and I just like the look and cable management I guess!

it depends on what you want to look at.  If you want coral growth go all blue if you want more "daylight appearance mix it up 3 blue 1 white or 2 blue 2 white.  how deep is tank?

4 total radions and 8 48 inch bulbs;  nice.   you may have to get fish and inverts sunglasses.

pictures?

so get all of those, or mix it up?     Also, you grow amazing stuff, so I am all on board

That's the beauty of going hybrid.  With T5 only, you have to mix and match bulbs to get the color you like.  With the LEDs in play, you can adjust the color with those, so I chose to run all blue plus as they've been shown to be the best all around spectrum for growth and health.  My tank isn't too blue because I compensate with white LED.

I think you’ll be happy with your results. Thanks for sharing with us. This topic is very interesting to me as every tank I’ve seen running hybrids were amazing with Amazing growth.

My concern......    now, and while I contemplated this setup......   is that the fixture is 20” wide.    My tank is also 20” wide (or deep/front-to-back, whatever you want to call it)

I am worried that I won’t really get the benefit from the T5’s that I otherwise might if my tank were 30” deep or so.....

I hope I’m not just lighting the outside of my tank!

I did ultimately go with two 48” fixtures vs two 36” ones, mostly because I think it will look better....    I plan to connect the two fixtures so they appear as one 96” long unit.....

You will get some light spill to the outside of the tank. But most usable light will enter the tank. The T-5s will also reduce the disco ball effect of leds and give the best looking light in my opinion.

I am in the same boat. I purchased the extenders to make the fixture 24" wide to accommodate my GHL Mitras. I do have light spill, but mostly it works out great. I tried to mount the t5s at an 15* angle with the included hardware, but the way the supports the leds hang from would not sit in the track very well. I am sure there is a way, but I am not the guy to figure it out. LOL!

My next purchase is a 30" tank to accommodate the width of my lighting :D
