It’s been almost a year since Focustronic teased some information about their newest project to compliment their alkalinity tester called the Mastertronic. Where the Alkatronic is a complete, all in one alkalinity testing and dosing machine, the Mastertronic picks up where that machine leaves off.

We’ve seen some ambitious development in the automatic testing of aquarium water chemistry beyond alkalinty, with the Xepta ABex AutoBalance and GHL ION Director, each with a unique approach to incorporating Calcium, Magnesium, and other important elements for reef life. The Mastertronic will impart these new features to the ‘Tronic ecosystem of lights and hardware, introducing Nitrate, Phosphate, Calcium and Phosphate to its repertoire.

Unlike some of other sci-fi testing machines which use ionic probes to make some of these measurements, the Mastertronic uses tried and true photometric testing, the same as most of us use for our reef tanks. Together with the Alkatronic the Mastertronic will automate the most important water parameters of keeping a reef tank but we’re looking forward to some additional improvements to this new generation of hardware from Focustronic.

Instead of bluetooth & WIFI, the Mastertronic will be the first of their machines to implement more reliable, modern wifi connection standards for much easier setup, as well as 2.0 version of their app and software. If development and production go according to plan, we should hopefully be seeing the Matsertronic hit the reef aquarium scene the third quarter of this year.
