What's up with West Mariculture?

Since the demise of my main product, aragonite substrate, I've had to rethink some things. After 10 years of relying on sand to fund my "projects" and R&D into new fun stuff, I have to get serious on something that will replace the cash flow. It's been a few tough months of soul searching. I still don't have a definite plan in place, but I'm working on it.

Over the past 10 years, I've had both a full time day job and a very busy business. After 40-50 hours in my day job, and another 50+ on the business every week, it's amazing how little time I spend with my family. I've taken this change in my business to refocus on some important things....my wife and kids. I've enjoyed these last several months more than I have the past 10 years. I'm sure those of you that have burned the candle at both ends for a long time and took a step back to refocus on family can understand this. I have no plans to go back that crazy life.

So, the business will be what the business will be. I'm still working on some frag stuff, LiveReefRock, Frag Islands, and Bonsai Reef, as time permits. Eventually, I'm sure I'll figure it all out, but for now I'm just taking it day by day.

I've had great support from the members of Buckeye Reef and I truly appreciate it. As you probably already know, Jesse is awesome, supportive, and an asset to our reef community. Thanks, Jesse!

Thanks for all the support and some of you that let me bend your ear for a bit about the current state of business. I'll be around now and again.

I won the frag island in buckeye reef. This thing is awesome. I haven't put it in the90 since I'm going to set up the 130 soon. It will be the centerpiece. It looks great. Nice weight. Very solid and well built. Anyone wanting a nice frag rack should look into these. I appreciate you putting this up inn the contest. I'm sure I'll love it for years to come

I understand what you are saying about stepping back and getting caught up. That is the mode I have been in for the last 12 months with the exception of a couple months in the summer when I took in reroofing my house alone over a 2 month span. The realization of what you have missed is humbling to say the least! Good luck with whatever you decide is the best path!

Too bad you weren't closer I would donate some time to help you out. I love building rocks. On a lighter side, you have to put what's important you first. It doesn't do any good to pursue a bunch of money if you look back and discover you never enjoyed life. Best of wishes to you and the family. As for the business, we hobbyists have it in our blood, we aren't going any where so we will see you around!

Thanks for all the support! I don't have plans to completely get out of this industry. I started breeding FW fish in high school, and caught the bug (20 tanks in my bedroom). Going on 30+ years in the hobby. Can't shake it. If I ever do plan to move on to other project, I'll make sure to pass on all the knowledge to someone that can continue the work. Too much time and R&D to just walk away and let it die.
